About this deal

Our lab tests cover some of the most important tasks a dehumidifier performs (including their water extraction, energy efficiency, humidistat function) as well as how easy they are to use and the noise they produce. But there are some things our extensive testing can't reveal – the most common dehumidifier faults is one of them.

Laura is also a freelance journalist and has written articles for publications including the Daily Mirror, the i, Metro, Stylist and Happiful magazine. Why you should trust us Extraction amount: It is essential to consider the maximum amount of moisture your dehumidifier can extract daily. It can range from anywhere from 500ml to upwards of 30 litres. Small units are fine for occasional use or a small area, such as a cupboard or study. Around 12 litres is suitable for a small flat, medium-sized room or a mild damp problem. Up to 16 litres is best for a larger room or one used regularly for washing or cooking, and units with a capacity of up to 20/30 litres can be used to dehumidify whole homes. This 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier collects up to 12 litres of moisture per day – perfectly suited for removing condensation and combatting mould in medium to large rooms and spaces. The high-performance dehumidifier uses an energy-efficient compressor to speed up the drying of clothes and offers 3 operation modes. A large 2L water tank ensures uninterrupted moisture collection throughout the day, and a drainage hose is included for continuous operation. The Pro Breeze 20L Premium is powerful, so higher energy usage isn't unexpected, but compared to the MeacoDry Arete One 20L Dehumidifier which averages energy usage of 216W that is still fairly high.

The bit that this dehumidifier really struggles with is the handle. Rather than a fold-up handle like you see on other models in the range, such as the ProBreeze 12L and the ProBreeze 30L, this 20L Premium model has recessed hand-holds in the body of the dehumidifier. The unit isn't the lightest or most compact we've tested, but then we wouldn't expect that from a machine this powerful. However, built-in wheels, a retractable carry handle, and cable tidy make it easier to move around the house and store neatly away when it's not in use. If you’re looking for a dehumidifier that can clear moisture in a larger space or deal with significant damp levels within the home, then you need a dehumidifier with a high extraction rate.

How much does a dehumidifier cost to run?

Unfortunately, 24% had to stop using their dehumidifier once it had a fault and disposed of it. Head to our dehumidifier guide to find out how to dispose of one. How we calculate the best and worst dehumidifier brands However, if you opt for the MeacoDry Arete One 12L Dehumidifier you also get a built-in air purifier, larger 2.5L water tank, better laundry drying performance, quieter operation, and better energy efficiency. If you want a dehumidifier of a similar power and price point, the slightly more expensive ProBreeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier remains our best budget buy, offering a better extraction rate of 0.5L and a larger 1.5L water tank, which means you won’t be emptying it quite so frequently. That said, the ProBreeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier is also larger in size, measuring H30 x W22 x D16cm compared to the Russell Hobbs' H22 x W14 x D14cm frame. And, the ProBreeze 1500ml is twice the weight, weighing in at 1.85kg.
