South Downs Way » Danny Cottage is located just a short stroll from The South Downs Way, the long distance footpath and bridleway running for 160 km (99 mi) along the South Downs from Winchester in Hampshire, to Eastbourne in East Sussex. A little later take another left, following a rusty footpath sign for ‘Jenkin’s Crag and Troutbeck’. You have a kettle to make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and we have provided some tea and sugar with small sachets of milk so you are able to make a cup of tea or coffee on arrival.

You can walk for days on three long distance national trails: the 90 mile South Downs Way from Eastbourne to Winchester, the Vanguard Way from Croydon to Newhaven and the Wealden Way from Gravesend to Eastbourne. At the end of the day everyone expects us to go down so it's a free hit for a new manager making his way.The shortest walk is in Lincoln (3 miles) and the longest is in the Horncastle area (17 miles, but this can be split into two walks).

Walk along the quiet road with the river on your left until you reach the A593, signposted Coniston and Skelwith Bridge (I). Unlike in Spylark, there is no trig point, but there are spectacular views of the lake stretching down to the islands in the middle. There are various small peaks and crags on the summit of the hill and you will soon reach the first, flat-topped, view point.
