Ellers Farm commissioned research from the University of York’s Biorenewables Development Centre which showed a number of specific flavour compounds were degraded when stored in clear glass, yet not observed in the amber glass. The flavour of the vodka stored in amber glass was closest to the vodka in the original sample. Not only will Dutch Barn standout as one of the best vodkas in the world, but it will also stand out on shelves and in bars due to its unique lightweight brown bottle – a world’s first. This was a conscious decision, as this brown glass provides better protection to the vodka and is made with 60% recycled content with significantly lower carbon emissions as a result compared to typical clear glass used by most vodkas. In addition, the bottles are sourced from a local manufacturer, with the double benefit of reducing transport emissions and supporting a local Yorkshire business. Speaking about Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka’s ambitions in the space, Gee Lilwall, Head of Marketing, said: Frozen products will also be available from 14 th April, with vegan options across a range of pizzas and pies, as well as meat-free burgers, meatballs, bacon and sausages. The liquid is tasted every 20 minutes as it evolves from British apples, balanced with a touch of potato spirit until it develops into a crisp, clean, and exceptionally smooth vodka at 40% ABV.
